RSS feed is quite an important part of your blog. It helps you to update your prospects and readers about the valuable information which you give in your blog. Initially it is a bit tough to convince people to subscribe to your blog and make them come again to your blog, but once you start writing quality articles and making people aware about your blog it is not that difficult.

Here are few tips which will help you increase your RSS feed subscribers:

  • Place:

The most important aspect of RSS feed is that the RSS feed is that it should be located at a proper place in your blog, so that it can be noticed by all the visitors. You can use some phrase for subscription like: “Subscribe to RSS feed”. This phrase along with the link you can place either above or below the post which will make sure the person reading through your post can see the RSS feed, if he likes your writing style or topic he might subscribe to the blog immediately. RSS feed Icon should be placed at the top of right side and should be visible on all the pages of your blog. This helps to locate the feed easily.

  • Attractive Icon:

Your RSS feed icon should be big enough so that all visitors can locate it easily. You can select whatever color you want but usually traditional bright orange color is the one

which attracts the eyes first. Bright color is easily visible. Many times visitor fail to locate small Icon which are of different color and thus blogger lose loyal visitors.

  • RSS Feed for Categories:

If you have different categories on your blog, use different feed for each and every category. All visitors have specific interest, so they might not be interested in all the categories on which you write, keeping that in mind; you should offer them to subscribe to individual category of their interest. This will help you also to increase RSS feed numbers.

  • Email Subscription:

Give your visitor an option of getting your articles through email. Many people don’t use RSS readers and still love to read mails, so it is better to give an option of Email Subscription to your visitors. You can promote RSS readers and finally it will increase your subscribers also. If you have few visitors who haven’t confirmed the subscription, then send them a gentle reminder mail about the confirmation of subscription. This will help you increasing the number of feed subscribers.

  • Run Contests:

Run contests on our blog (only for visitors who subscriber to your blog) and the number of RSS feed will surely increase. You can also participate in blog carnival, which will help you to get more visitors and thus more subscribers. Like this blog contest

  • Content and Theme:

This is most important point to remember. Your article must be killer and informative. Once you know how to write good articles, visitors will surely subscribe to your RSS feed. Be unique with your post. Add Graphics and pictures to make your post more clearly and understandable.  Your blog theme should be user-friendly so that user can navigate easily from one page to another.

  • Use Widgets:

There are many widgets available like MYBLOGLOG, Bumzee or BlogCatalog. These widgets help you to increase the number of subscriber as well as keep track of your visitors. I am using these widgets and I am very satisfied with these widgets. When widget message me about new visitor, I send my visitor (potential subscriber  ) a thank you message for visiting and ask them to Subscribe to my RSS Feed.

  • Reply emails:

If reader is sending you an email, try to reply as soon as possible .If you will ignore your readers, they will never come back to Subscribe to your Feed.

Hope these points will help you to get good numbers of RSS Feed Subscribers. Happy Blogging.

According to me placing a nice RSS Icon on all pages of your blog is very important. It should not be small or too big.

I think that if your visitors are interested in your content, if you place a RSS feed to a noticeable place, I’m pretty sure they’ll subscribe to your site. Some people have a lot of subscribers who use web address that they never used, just to grab a ebook for free. I prefer true readers rather than one time visitors which subscribe just for the free ebook download for instance.

    Very nice tips anyway!

Regarding the contests, wouldn’t that only work if they subscribe via e-mail (like the one on the blog you mention as en example)? Otherwise one wouldn’t be able to verify that the participants are in fact subscribed to the feed.

I actually just started my blog and was messing around with the different ways with which to promote RSS subscriptions and this was very helpful. I really think that offering by email is extremely important. Even though a lot of us use RSS, it’s still not widely understood or even how to subscribe.
