First Time SEO for New Blogs

You would probably find enough content on the web about SEO for new blogs or for beginners. However, I would like to emphasize on few very essential tips.

1.    Rich Content

Believe it or not, one of the best SEO tools you have is your content. I don’t think many of you would agree on this. However, according to me, without quality content your blog would never be a topper. You can do everything to get enough traffic on your blog. But if they don’t find your content attractive and original, they wouldn’t every come back. And I guess that’s not what you are aiming at.

2.    Keywords & Titles

There are several tools that would help you to generate a list of keywords that are widely searched on the web. Using these keywords in the title and body of your posts would provide your blog with much-needed exposure. However, make sure you do not flood the content with these keywords.

3.    Links

The more links you have, the more exposure you get. First, make sure you have enough links on your own posts. This will help people explore your blog and help you to keep them engaged on your blog for a longer time. You can have relevant links at the bottom of the post (related articles), side bars (popular posts), and so on.

Second, place your links outside your blog, i.e. on other blogs, social networking sites, and so on. This is a very significant tool to boost the optimization process of your blog. Your blog’s ranking, its traffic, its popularity, and just about everything depends on number and quality of links you place. One shouldn’t, however, be obsessed with getting links. Understand it’s difficult to get links and it takes time to have your links scattered all over the web.

4.    Effective Domain Name

Although this isn’t an ongoing SEO process, it’s a one-time tool that, if selected properly, would work well for your blog. You domain name must have the main keyword related to you niche. This would attract more traffic, and more people would be able to find you through search engines. Hence, select a domain name cleverly.

5.    Submitting to Search Engines

All the above mentioned SEO strategies would be useless if you haven’t submitted your blog to search engines. For a blog or a website to be listed in search engine results, it has to be indexed by major search engines. One of the quickest ways to get indexed by search engines is to get linked by websites or blogs that are already indexed by search engines.

There are several other ways to optimize your blog and increase its accessibility. However, the ones mentioned about are some of the most important ones and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Submitting to search engines is probably not the term I would have employed, because people use to had to physically “submit their site” to the SE. Get inbound links is more likely to get your site noticed and probably faster also.

Internal links are vital to get older articles to maintain or gain better positions. In copy links are better so I would say that the “blogs” and “search engines” links from your articles are the best ones in your article for SE point of view. For users I think the “related articles” links list is actually better as it stands out more.

Perhaps it is my error that I don’t put much premium on SEO. I have however tried using Google’s Keyword tool to at least incorporate high ranking keywords on my blog. So far I see it’s benefit. :-)

Let’s not forget the All in One SEO pluging for WordPress either! It helps sort out your SEO stuff for you without so much manual labor!

I think a future post going into more detail about on page optimization might be a good idea, Chris. There are many factors from meta description, alt tags and h tags to discuss in much more detail.

Good tips Chris. After all, I still prefer getting backlink and improve SEO by doing guest posting, it’s the best and effective way. We can build our brand from there too.
